In 2010 Dan Kolbert and Steve Konstantino along with a group of builders, tradesmen, architects, designers and suppliers started meeting up in Portland, Maine to discuss the energy efficiency, durability, methods and materials in building. The concept of a monthly gathering began to take flight after Dan’s 2012 JLC article and the idea quickly traveled west.
Designer Michael Maines coined the name “BS* (Building Science) and Beer” which caught our attention. After lamenting the inconvenience of commuting to Maine for these weekly meetings, we got together in early 2019 to start our own discussion group here in the Midwest. Since 2019, we’ve hosted more than 300 BS* enthusiasts as well as featured expert presentations.
